Lesson 6 — Stock plants & cutting collection
Goal: Build a stock plant program so your cuttings are consistent and clean.
Stock plants (mother plants)
- True-to-type, disease-free, and vigorous
- Separate “foundation” plants (protected) from “production” stock plants (used heavily)
- Consistent irrigation and nutrition (avoid extreme soft growth)
- Regular scouting and sanitation
Collection SOP
- Collect early morning (best turgor).
- Keep cuttings shaded and cool immediately.
- Process quickly; don’t let material bake in the sun.
- Standardize: same maturity, length, and node count.
