Lesson 4 — Mist, filtration, and controls
Goal: Build a mist system that keeps cuttings turgid without saturating media.
System components (commercial minimum)
- Water source + shutoff
- Filter (protects nozzles) + spare screens
- Pressure regulation (if needed for your nozzles)
- Solenoid valve
- Controller (timer or leaf-sensor)
- Nozzles/foggers + tubing + fittings
Control options
- Timer-only: cheapest, works, but easier to over/under-mist.
- Electronic leaf: adjusts with evaporation; more consistent day-to-day.

Build/Do
- Draw your plumbing in one line (source → filter → valve → controller → nozzle line).
- Plan zones: at least “fresh stick” separate from “wean” later.
- Run a uniformity test: place cups across bench, run mist 1 minute, compare volumes.
Rule: Too little mist = wilt. Too much mist = disease + rot. Control is the profit lever.
