Lesson 8 — Yard Layout, Surfaces, and Roads
Goal: keep the nursery workable in winter and efficient in summer. Mud kills efficiency.
Surfaces to prioritize
- Main lane (“spine”) that stays passable all year
- Potting area pad (firm, cleanable)
- Shipping/staging pad
- High-traffic intersections and turns
Simple road diagram
Entrance → Shipping/Loading pad ── Main lane ("spine") ── Production blocks
└─ Potting area (central)
Do this
- Measure tight turns and widen them before you need them.
- Plan “wet-season routes” so you’re not driving through soft ground.
- Mark future expansion lanes now (don’t plant yourself into a corner).
