Lesson 8 — Yard Layout, Surfaces, and Roads

Goal: keep the nursery workable in winter and efficient in summer. Mud kills efficiency.

Surfaces to prioritize

• Main lane (“spine”) that stays passable all year
• Potting area pad (firm, cleanable)
• Shipping/staging pad
• High-traffic intersections and turns

Do this

1. Measure tight turns and widen them before you need them.
2. Plan “wet-season routes” so you’re not driving through soft ground.
3. Mark future expansion lanes now (don’t plant yourself into a corner).
