Lesson 5 — Power, Lighting, and Controls
Goal: power the nursery reliably and safely (pumps, timers, greenhouse fans, heaters, lighting).
Power map (simple)
Main panel → subpanels (greenhouse / barn / pump house) → dedicated circuits (pump, fertigation, fans/heaters, lighting) → low-voltage controls (timers, solenoids, sensors)
Design principles
- Dedicated circuits for pumps and high-draw equipment.
- GFCI where water is present.
- Labeled “control wall” for timers/relays.
- Plan for future automation (even if you start manual).
Do this
- List every device you expect in Year 1 and Year 5 (pumps, heaters, fans, lights).
- Decide where subpanels go so cable runs stay short.
- Build a simple electrical legend: breaker → device → location.
